Dr Weekes is no longer alive but her legacy is still considered as relevant as it was when she was alive.  All of her work was based on 3 principles: her own experience as a sufferer of anxiety, her outstanding scientific knowledge and her observation of her own patients.  Her emphasis was on showing people how to heal themselves and she never tried to claim that she had cured them.   It was her belief that nervous disorders occur when people are kept in a state of extreme sensitization for an extended period of time. Sometimes the condition is brought about by an event and sometimes it occurs bit by bit, especially if the sufferer is forced to live with unpleasant circumstances. Her techniques are designed to teach people how to get control over their state of mind. What’s more, Dr Weekes provides ways to manage and cope with the feelings of fear and dread that are commonly felt. Finally, she helps people to understand their physical symptoms and how they relate to their mental state.

You can read an article about panic attack causes here.

Basically, her material explains what people are suffering from, how they can deal with it and provides an understanding of all the symptoms both physical and psychological that come with it. Panic and depression are closely linked and her treatment also deals with depression which she calls depletion.  It is as if the sufferer has been thrashing the panic button and flooding the engine with adrenaline for some considerable time and the battery is flat. Dr weekes will tell you how to recharge the battery. Dr. Claire Weekes is a master at reassuring her readers, and listeners of her audio programs, that they’re not alone and that there is nothing wrong with them.
