Want to Stop Smoking

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

We all know that smoking not only damages us physically but emotionally, psychologically, and socially as well. These are the very reasons why the reasons to stop smoking are valid and need to be heeded as early as possible.

We all have our personal reasons to stop smoking. Some may already be experiencing the symptoms of the damage that smoking does to our physical health; some may be constantly ostracized by his or her own circle of friends; yet some may simply want to have an overall feeling of wellness.

Physical well-being is the number one reason to stop smoking. There are many ways by which one can stop smoking. Some of them are:

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical treatment. It involves in stimulating some particles of the human body for deriving specific outputs. Do not be horrified, as acupuncture is done by piercing the skin with thin needles. It is not painful but seems to be relaxing. Once you have reached a decision for using acupuncture to stop smoking, you must first and foremost get a licensed acupuncture practitioner. Make sure that you find a practitioner who has a proper medical cultivation and who can better assess the medical treatment required by you.

Many people, who have almost given up on being able to quit smoking, are finding success with hypnotherapy. This kind of hypnotism is not the same kind you will see when watching a hypnotist act for entertainment. Hypnosis works on the subconscious part of your brain. Subconscious thought is very powerful and we often bemoan the fact that we have a lot of negative subconscious thoughts about ourselves. However, your subconscious mind can be trained to think positive thoughts as well. Hypnosis successfully plants suggestions deep into your brain. When you awake and go about your everyday business, you’ll begin to act on these positive suggestions.

Cigarette cravings come from two sources, physical and psychological withdrawal. Physical withdrawal happens when your brain realizes that your body does not have nicotine in its system. Psychological withdrawal is basically your body trying to act on a habit it has developed over the years. The first step in handling these cravings is identifying what kind of craving it is, physical or psychological. It’s important to realize which type of craving you are having because once you do; you can handle it much better. List out your triggers and find alternatives to the triggers.

Lots of people have become aware of what smoking can do to their health and have made attempts to quit. The good news is that there are now aids for smokers who want to quit. They can try chewing a nicotine gum or putting on a nicotine patch. These are two of the types of nicotine replacement therapy wherein the craving for the pleasurable feelings is quenched by the content of these gums and patches, taking away the need for a stick of cigarette

Make a list of the reasons that have made you take the decision to quit smoking, in which there is bound to be a reference to some of the killing diseases. Read the list again and again. Human life is too precious to squander on the stubs and ash of cigarettes.

Ensure that your frame of mind is positive, positive and positive again!

Treating Depression Should Renew Hope To Be Effective

Treating Depression Video

Depression must first be understood before it’s treated.  Depression troubles 15 million Americans every year, it’s not a joke.  The most troubling aspect is that only about 1/3 of those people seek help.  Too many Americans are still tarnished by the age-old stereotype associated with any mental illness.  Their character is so important that they don’t want a label like “crazy” to tarnish it.  To treat depression first it has to be diagnosed.  Diagnosis doesn’t happen while the sufferer hides the problem.  That’s the terrible merry go round of depression.

Depression has many causes.  Depression stems from chemical, emotional, environmental and even physical causes .  Don’t overlook the genetic link.  Family history has a major part to play.  It is not just family history but family life in general.  The stress of everyday life can be brutal.  The constant struggle just to survive bothers some.  For others there is that constant battle to perform satisfactory in a competitive society.  Despair can stem from people having been sexually abused, or even emotionally scarred.  It’s a long list.

The worst part about depression is that in the early stages it is sometimes hard to diagnose.  It’s hard to see the symptoms even if a loved one suffers from this illness.  Everyone gets down in the dumps once in a while.  It’s not uncommon.  The affects of depression go much deeper.  When the symptoms begin to start taking over your life than the opportunity for early detection has been missed.  People with depression feel lonely and fed up with general living.  Signs of hope in their lives are gone.  Simple daily enjoyments and even sleeping are affected.  This is when treatment is critical.

When treating depression the afflicted needs to receive a renewed sense of hope and meaning to be effective.  This is typically achieved through ‘talk therapy’.   This is a long term treatment that won’t have immediate results, but it works.  The medical professional also has the option of prescribing anti-depressants like Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, Lexapro, Celex, or Luvox .  These drugs are effective but they are accompanied by many side effects as well.  There are also natural herbs that have been proven clinically to bring about positive results in treating depression as well.  Another effective solution is a depression support group.  If you or someone you love are feeling the affects of depression please consult a medical professional immediately.

major depression

Bi-Polar disorder is another moniker for manic depression. Bi-Polar people exhibit sudden changes from a very good mood to a very bad mood. It is just another in the many forms of depression. Manic depression isn’t just having negative feelings over a negative event. Manic depression is a much more serious condition. The diagnosis of being Bi-Polar is just another stage of the disease of depression. Manic depression is diagnosed in millions of cases each year in America. Typically, some type of depression yearly affects around 17 million Americans. The draw back is that only a third of the potentially affected will ever seek medical assistance or get some type of diagnosis. When the sufferer refuses aid, there can be no cure. A lot of people refuse to deal with any disease called a mental illness. The negative image of someone who is nuts is just too much for them. Diseases that affect the brain have always been very complicated. It is hard to shake the stigma that comes with the diagnosis. But it’s not a sign of being less when this disease is diagnosed. It doesn’t mean you’re insane. This is a disease like any other. If it’s identified it can be cured. All forms of depression are still being studied by doctors and researchers. It has been shown that depression can be brought on by many possibilities. It is known that biological, genetic, and environmental factors have to be taken into consideration. A chemical imbalance in the brain helps cause it. We also know that stress can play a major role in the advent of depression. Life is full of stress. It can be problems at work, in our relationships with those we love or facing the reality of trying to survive week to week. Depression knows no bounds. It can affect the rich and the poor. It is not racist. No color or nationality is free from this illness. The symptoms for all forms of depression are quite similar. The frequent change in personality, the mood swings that go up and then goes down. Depression can result in insomnia. The feeling of helplessness, hopelessness and Desperation. Depression is real when it interferes with your ability to live your life. There is hope for depression sufferers. You can find help. Prescription medications as well as natural herbs can cure it. Doctors can also help with talk therapy. There are also many support groups that will help you deal with the disease. The first step in the cure is seeking the assistance.

Effective Depression Medications

Monday, November 24th, 2008

Depression is more than sadness or feeling depressed for a few days.  Depression can last for years, it’s a serious illness.  According to various reports as many as fifteen million Americans suffer from this disease.  And yet, sadly, only about 1/3 of those people seek medical care.  All too often people avoid recognizing or admitting that they suffer from depression because of the negative archetypes associated with mental illnesses.  Depression is a progressive illness.  Without treatment it will take over your life.  Ignorance in this case isn’t bliss.

Depression is caused by a variety of factors.  These include the whole spectrum of genetic, biological, physical and emotional items.  Simple daily life and surroundings are important.  Stress and other negative influences have been known to contribute.  Complicated diseases like depression aren’t easy to crack.  As well, the human brain and its workings are quite complex.  Work continues into the mind and brain and how they work, what makes them tick.  It’s clear that it’s an imbalance of chemical compounds in the brain that creates depression.  We are learning more every day about how the whole process works.  The phrase is “learning is half the battle” and with depression knowledge is power.

Depression can be treated with a host of available medications.  Of course the market is full of ‘quick fix’ antidotes.  Make sure the treatment has been studied and scientifically proven to address depression.  There was a time in our history if you were afflicted by anything that was associated with mental illness you were thrown into a mental ward and lost in the system.  It’s good to know that’s no longer the case.  In 1988 the anti-depressant ‘Prozac’ first hit the market in the United States.  It was proven to work, and thus is still prescribed today even though it can have serious side effects.

Since then a new class of anti-depressants has become popular as well.  Currently depression is being treated with SSRI or (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) such as Paxil, Zoloft, Lexapro, Celexa, and Luvox.  All have been proven effective but come with varied side effects.  Herbal medications also have a place in this market.  Hyperforin, an ingredient in the St. John Wort extract, is common in those that seem to work as well as anti-depressants.   If this ingredient is used in the proper strength it is effective.  Be careful, do your research and you will find effective depression medications to treat your depression.

Types Of Depression Video

Depression is a complicated illness. Depression can linger and grow for months or even years before being detected . Studies have shown that millions of Americans will suffer some form of depression this year.  Unfortunately fewer than 1/3 of these people will look for help.  In many cases the afflicted do not even realize that they are ill.  Every day stress is common in the modern world. It’s more difficult to navigate the obstacles in life.  Many families are surviving week to week.  Trouble in the economy has made it more difficult than ever to keep a good job.  Depression stems from stress.

Countless types of depression exist.  Some of the labels mean the same thing. There is mental depression, medical depression, clinical depression and manic depression.  There is also severe depression that alludes to the final stages of the disease.  Depression is brought on by many associating factors.  One of these is simple biology, brain chemistry issues.  Depression can also be caused genetically from your family history.  If your grandfather and father suffered bouts with depression than you may be at risk to suffer it as well.

The same issues can give birth to many different types of depression.  Substance abuse can lead to depression.  Both alcoholics and drug abusers can contract depression.  Depression is more likely after a close person dies.  History hasn’t been kind to mental depression.  Prior to mental illness being recognized as a disease it was considered by many to be a personal defect.  There was very little treatment offered.  Each depression phase has it’s own negative results.  Early detection, then, is necessary to fight depression.

When it has become severe depression treatment is needed ASAP.  At this stage suicide is often the result.  The calls for help have gone unnoticed and the avenues for hope are slipping away.   Medications and therapy combine for a working treatment.  Also available are support groups that can help.  You can also find many natural herbal medications that have been proven effective in clinical studies.  People who suffer from any type of depression have options.  If lingering signs of depression exist then please seek help.

Severe Depression Affects Millions

Severe Depression Video

At its worst, depression is severe depression.  Too many Americans will not seek help for this disorder until it is so severe that it takes years to bring under control.  Each year over 15 million people in America suffer from some form of depression.  Unfortunately 2/3 of these people never seek medical treatments.  They try to hide it, wish it away, because of fear of being labeled crazy or insane.  The problem is that Sever Depression will not be wished away.  Over time the disease progresses to the point it completely takes over the victim’s life.

Many Americans are too ashamed to admit they are afflicted.  Severe depression does not make you sub-human.  It doesn’t make you less of a human.  Like heart disease or cancer, depression is an illness.  Medical care is needed.  When it becomes severe depression the symptoms become even worse.  The illness and its effects get much much worse.  Social situations and work become more difficult.  The feelings of worthlessness begin to completely consume you and pull you deeper into yourself.  There are no steps that can avoid this illness.  However, it can be treated.  Early detection is vital to success.

It takes some skill to diagnose depression from its symptoms.  Depression is associated with many symptoms.  One of the most obvious is that the inflicted will begin to draw into themselves.  Dealing with other people becomes too difficult.  It is too difficult to deal with negative feelings such as guilt and helplessness.  They always seem angry and short tempered.  In the severest of cases those suffering from this disease may feel that they hear voices or believe they have received visits from the devil.  At some point many of these victims of Severe Depression will consider suicide as a way of escape.  Those affected by this illness need the support of those around them and treatment that will give them confidence once again.

Severe depression is terrible.  Victims become unable to live like they used to.  Losing the ability to control your own life is terrible.  Treatment is the only option.  Typically, anti-depressants and ‘talk therapy’ are prescribed to treat depression.  Discussing the issues in a support group can also be effective.  Once victims seek treatment they can be put on the road to a better life.  It’s very possible to regain control over their lives.  To reach that point one must first face their illness and pursue solutions.
